Goodbye Mr MacKenzie Middlesbrough Westgarth 02.11.19

Goodbye Mr Mackenzie are a Scottish group formed in Bathgate, near Edinburgh, Scotland in the late Eighties. At the band’s commercial peak, the line-up consisted of Martin Metcalfe on vocals, John Duncan on guitar, Fin Wilson on bass guitar, Shirley Manson and Rona Scobie on keyboards and backing vocals, and Derek Kelly on drums.

The band came to prominence in the late 1980s after releasing two independent label singles, and were signed to Capitol Records. They charted in the UK with their debut album, Good Deeds and Dirty Rags, and single release “The Rattler” the band but were hindered by record company conflicts and failed to break through outside the UK. The band split up in 1993, leaving Manson, Metcalfe, Wilson and Kelly to form Angelfish to continue recording music. Manson left for Garbage in 1994, and Goodbye Mr Mackenzie played their final live show at the end of 1995.

Metcalfe, Wilson and Kelly have performed regularly as The Filthy Tongues releasing 2 critically acclaimed albums, “Jacobs Ladder” and “Back To Hell” regularly featuring Goodbye Mr MacKenzie songs in the live set. The Filthy Tongues have played several shows already in Middlesbrough at The Westgarth and are big fans of the area and the people.

In May 2019 the band reformed (sadly minus Manson) to play a sell out show in Glasgow and spurred on by rave reviews and the demand for more the band decided to add additional shows playing the “Good Rags And Dirty Deeds” album in full to mark the 30 year anniversary of it’s release and the upcoming deluxe re-issue.

Louder Than War magazine gave a rave review of the May show. Read it here.

The band are playing only 3 shows South of the border and the first is on Saturday 2nd November at Middlesbrough’s Westgarth Club.

The classic “The Rattler” recorded (on a phone!) and with Martin struck down by Laryngitis in May 2019

Tickets are available in person from the club, Sound It Out Records in Stockton and Middlesbrough Town Hall Box Office. Also available on line via SEE Tickets or Middlesbrough Town Hall.
