Rob Green (The Fallen Leaves) Q & A

We asked Rob Green from the best live band in Britain (The Fallen Leaves in case you’ve been asleep for the last 10 years) to answer a few questions for us. Not his views on Coronavirus etc but a light hearted questionaire on his favourite singles, early music recollections. Here we go.

First musical memory?

I think the first memories come from the TV. I have a vivid memory of the theme music to Tales Of The Riverbank, and even more so from a dubbed German series of Robinson Crusoe, Which was shown every summer holiday. I can hum it now!

First single bought?

Al Capone by Prince Buster, it was played at every kids disco, although it actually came out in about 1964. I’ve still got it, on the Bluebeat label, The song of course was nicked for the Specials first single.

First LP bought?

Similar theme. Tighten Up Volume 2 on Trojan records. A compilation of terrific ska records.

Favourite ever single?

New Rose by the Damned, but I don’t like anything else they did.

Favourite ever LP?

The Ramones, Leave Home. Its their second album. I love the first one too, but the guitar is louder on Leave Home, and I think they had perfected their sound.

First live show you went to?

Gary Glitter at The Rainbow 1973. It was terrific, but thank god I didn’t get backstage!

Last live show you went to?

The Fallen Leaves: The best group in the UK

Best live show you have ever been to?

Theres two; The Ramones at The Roundhouse, early 1977. And The White Riot tour at The Rainbow, where we ripped out all the seats. Great Line up of The Clash, Jam, Buzzcocks, Subway Sect, The Prefects and The Slits.

If you could go back in time and go to a show you missed which one would it be?

The Ramones first UK show, supporting The Flaming Groovies.

Best venue you have played in or watched a live show at?

The 100 Club in London, And The Westgarth in Middlesbrough, for the crowd.

You can only listen to one song for the rest of your life. Which one would it be?

Chasing Sheep Is Best Left To Shepherds by The Michael Nyman Band

Thanks to Rob for taking the time to do this. The Fallen Leaves will, all being well, be back at their favourite venue, The Westgarth Social Club on Saturday Nov 14th.
