The Monochrome Set Georgian Theatre Nov 30th

Primordial soup: Andy Warren and Bid went to school together, Lester Square and Adam Ant both attended Hornsey School of Art. The latter two formed a band called “The B-Sides”, which Andy joined sometime in 1976. Bid also joined a couple of months later, and Adam left shortly after. Lester, Andy and Bid occasionally continued to write and rehearse together (it was around this time that some of the songs later to be used by The Monochrome Set were written, e.g., Goodbye Joe, He’s Frank, Puerto-Rican Fence Climber, Lester Leaps In), until Adam formed The Ants with Lester and Andy. Whilst Andy continued on with Adam to record the first Ants album, Lester left The Ants in 1977, to form, firstly The Zarbies & The Ectomorphs with Bid and Jeremy Harrington, and then The Monochrome Set with Bid (Jeremy joined later).

To quote the Asahi Evening News, 1993: “When B-Sides singer Adam Ant quit the band for an ill-fated solo career, The Monochrome Set was born.”

You could say the band were reborn, certainly rejuvenated in 2012 with the release of the first new material in nearly 20 years with the album Platinum Coils. Since then the band have been prolific releasing further new material in 2013 with Super Plastic City followed by Spaces Everywhere (2015) Cosmonaut (2016) and Maisieworld this year.

Support comes from The Cathode Ray who make a welcome return to Teesside after supports with BOHJ, Fallen Leaves and Wire. Tickets from venue or here: Fast Forward Shows via SEE Tickets

Martin Stephenson – Georgian Theatre Stockton. 16th September 2017

Untitled designFirst show of the Autumn/Winter schedule sees the return of the Tyneside troubadour Martin Stephenson

Martin is an outstanding singer and songwriter, whose career in music now stretches back over thirty years of critical acclaim and relentless touring.

The Daintees became one of the first bands to sign to the Newcastle based label Kitchenware, releasing a string of albums until disbanding in 1992.  Martin has played literally 1000’s of shows, both solo and with the reformed Daintees. This will be his 3rd solo appearance at The Georgian Theatre. Each show is unique, there is no set formula, just great songs mixed with fabulous stories and jokes along side a total engagement with the audience.

Tickets available from the venue and usual on line outlets.

Quick Update

A variety of circumstances mean I’ve not had time to update the site as I’d intended these last few months. Still here though and hopefully over the upcoming weeks there’ll be more content added.

The first Fast Forward show is on October 22nd featuring The Space Agency with support still to be arranged and tickets available from the venue, on line or contact me directly.

Here’s a taster of the band in action in France last month.

Another new show!

Latest confirmed show features Allan Crockford’s other band The Galileo 7. Allan is of course a current member of Graham Day & The Forefathers and has previously been in a who’s who of the so called Medway scene having been in The Prisoners, The Prime Movers, The Solarflares and played along side James Taylor and Billy Childish. Quite some pedigree.

This show is a joint promotion with Good Hip who regularly feature up and coming young bands at their excellent “Get Hip” nights at the Music Lounge in Stockton. Well worth checking out.

Tickets are on sale now for the show which takes place at The Westgarth Social Club in Middlesbrough on Saturday 8th April with support from Thee Strawberry Mynde.
